Description of narrative structure and use
of film language
Structure/form – the sequence of events (linear or
non-linear narrative)
The sequence begins with a group of college students,
coming out of college. One student receives a message on a mobile phone saying
if he doesn’t send this message he will get killed. This chain message
continues to be sent to several students, the next day one of the protagonist’s
friends that received this message dies. This sets panic in the whole town, as
this chain message is sent to several students; the protagonist and the
antagonist now confront each other. The protagonist lifts his arms in the air
and the antagonist now sees a sign that stops him from killing the protagonist.
Mise-en-scene (setting/location, props, lighting,
costume etc.)
When it comes to the location the entrance of the
college will be used for the first scene, secondly it will be a dark room where
we will see the dead body in a body bag. Thirdly, the confrontation between the
antagonist and protagonist will be filmed in a living. Lastly, a dark room will
be used to show shots of the antagonist planning his murders and showing a map
and pictures of his next victims.
Costume wise, the group of students will be wearing
casual costumes; however, the antagonist will be wearing a jumpsuit including a
white mask on his face.
The props are going to be the blackberry mobile phone,
the body bag,
Cinematography (shot types and camera movements)
For the first scene there will be a long
shot which will allow to show the setting and the overall entrance of the
college and the camera will be tracking. This will be followed by a tracking
shot following the student’s conversation on the chain message. A zoom will be
made on the chain messages and an extreme close up shot will be made in order
to make the message clear to the audience.
There will be an establishing shot showing
the body bag in the next scene, this will then be followed by a close up shot
to show the body of the victim and also to show the sign on the victim’s body.
There will then be quick shots of students in the college set in panic by this
murder.
The next scene is the confrontation between the
protagonist and the antagonist, the camera tilts tothe side...
Sound (dialogue, voice-over, effects and/or soundtrack)
The first scene is going to be dialogue; there will
also be background noise of people leaving college and natural sound like cars diving past and so on. We will also add sound
during the editing to symbolise the reciving of messages and phone calls, so the audience understands even if its not shown on camera
